Registering a Thai company is only the starting point. Foreign founders who treat accounting as a year-end task often discover compliance gaps, cash surprises, and audit friction long after the business is operating.
Open a dedicated business bank account immediately
Keep business and personal transactions separate from day one. Revenue Department reviews and future financing both depend on clean bank records. Every deposit and withdrawal should map to a documented business purpose.
Decide on VAT registration early
If projected annual revenue will exceed 1.8 million baht, plan VAT registration before you cross the threshold. You must register within 30 days of crossing—not at year-end. See our guide on VAT registration in Thailand for the full process.
Set up monthly tax filings from month one
Thai companies typically file several obligations monthly or on fixed cycles:
- Withholding tax (PND.1, 3, 53) — on salaries, service fees, rent, and other qualifying payments
- VAT (PP.30) — if VAT-registered
- Social security (SSF) — for eligible employees
Missing the first month sets a pattern that is hard to fix later. Confirm current forms, rates, and deadlines with the Revenue Department or your accountant.
Choose accounting software your team and accountant both use
Foreign founders often prefer Xero or QuickBooks for English reporting. Thai accountants often prefer FlowAccount or Peak for native PND and VAT workflows. Align on one platform—or a deliberate dual-stack—before transactions pile up. Read our FlowAccount vs Peak vs Xero comparison.
Keep bilingual document discipline
Contracts, invoices, and tax certificates may need to be in Thai or bilingual formats. Store digital copies of every tax invoice received and issued. Phuket hospitality operators should track OTA payouts, cash, and supplier invoices separately from the start.
